Applications of 3D

There are many different applications of 3D  that we see on a day to day basis. One example of this is 3D modeling. 3D modeling is used for many different purposes in life but one main reason for using 3D modeling is for designing and planning building structures. One programme that helps create these structures is autodesk 3ds max. This programme is able to help create any 3d models by putting shapes and effects together. This programme can also be helpful when game designing or film making.

3D stands for Three dimensional so instead of usually seeing a flat 2D shape you will be able to see an object or design from all angles. Most 3D models represent a 3D real life object or item. These models are connected by various different geometric shapes conected together to form a model. Building companies and arcitects use this type of design as this can create a brief idea of how a building maybe strucuted or how a building could look. This is very useful as they are able to plan ahead. Also medical facilities use 3d modelling to model detail structures of organs. This can help them plan out what organs they need. The movie industry uses 3D modelling to create and manipulate created characters and objects for animated and real life motion pictures also known as CGI. This technology has revolutionized the movie industry resulting in many successful animated films such as toy story and Shrek. The two biggest movie companies that only use 3D modelling and animation are Disney and Dream works. The two films avatar and the transformares trilogy both use CGI in the greatest depth. For the Avatar film it took over five years to create all of the CGI and animations.

But the industry that 3D modelling mostly affects is the gaming industry. Every big platform game companies(Ubisoft, E.A, THQ etc) always use 3D modelling when developing and creating their games. Every 3D model is made up of meshes which are vertices, Edges and faces that combine to make a solid 3D model. The more detailed the model is the more meshes that are needed. Scientists and engineers can also use this technology as well, scientists use this to make complex models of atoms and chemical compounds. Engineers use this to design new devices, vehicles and structures.
